REGRETS
Did u know regretting is a waste of happiness and time? Did you know regretting can cause feelings such as sadness, anger, shame?
As human being, you are allowed to make mistakes and disappointments are part of life. What you are not allowed to is dwelling in regrets about what had already happened.
So what if 2017 nothing worked on your favor? May be your friends left you, you lost a job, you failed an exam, you are still unemployed, your business didn’t blossom, your broke off your relationship etc, because you feel like you should have done things differently. Disappointments after disappointments, mistakes after mistakes.
Am not saying you shouldn’t regret. Actually you should as regrets can give you a chance to reflect on things and find an alternate way to fix things/not to repeat. BUT NEVER dwell in regrets as they leads into depression, sadness and all the negative feelings, and they are a big obstacle of happiness.
Try to recall the time you were depressed about something that you did wrong and went on for days or months or someone who has been depressed. That’s the time all sorts of negative thoughts come in your head. “I don’t deserve to live”, “I am a bad person”, “I don’t think I will succeed”, “I am a failure”, “I don’t deserve him or her” etc.
Its time to let go of the past. Take regrets in a positive way and understand that there is nothing you can do to rectify the past. As I had written earlier, this is the chance to think of ways to fix things, try a different approach if you can or simply let go. If you mess up, own it.
Forgive yourself for whatever it is that you caused. Don’t be too hard on yourself and don’t think on “what if’s” so much. Remember all the good you have done.
Replace regrets by something positive. Am sure there are somethings that you do right. For instance, the girl you wanted to marry got engaged to someone else and is getting married. One thing I believe is if she truly loved you, she wouldn’t leave. (Am a believer).
Stick to the things that you are good at. For example, you a great pianist. I don’t know why you would want to shame yourself in public by singing.
Let me tell you this. Most people may not understand you, may criticize you for what you did, may even leave you. In the midst of all that, know that they also do make mistakes, some even more worse than yours. We are no Angels. (Warning! “Am human, I make mistakes” shouldn’t give u permission to do wrong things purposely).
Accept you made a mistake, don’t dwell in regrets and do it differently next time.
Wishing all my readers a very happy new year 2018.
