Saying something honest vs saying something hurtful
So many time, people say things either intentionally or unintentionally. Some of the things people say can be offensive to someone. People are different. There are those who will confront you when you offend them and also those who won’t; rather, hurt inside. The latter are those who end up committing suicide or being depressed etc. Always watch out the things you say to someone. Think carefully before you speak/comment something.
Well, what I want to speak about today is, know that there is a difference between saying something honest and saying something hurtful even though it’s true.
For instance, saying something like, “you are ignorant, you will always fail”. It’s probably true that that student doesn’t do well in school but doesn’t necessarily mean he/she is a failure in life. This is just one example of commenting something hurtful.
Saying something like, “you are contentious”. This is one example of commenting something honest. It is a way of highlighting someone’s bad habit that should be corrected.
(You may wanna take a minute for yourself and think of when you said something hurtful to someone else and apologize if possible)
Oh yes! There are people who will try to argue and justify that truth hurts no matter what/how you say it. And I will agree with that but to what extent are you willing to hurt someone/where is your limit?
As you start this new month and many more to come....choose your words wisely or don’t speak at all.
