SELFISHNESS
Being selfish means one cares only about him/herself and doesn’t consider others. Ever thought why people are selfish in the first place? It’s because of jealousy, greediness and hate mostly, I say.
Bad selfish acts: That one student who doesn’t wanna share his/her study materials when he/she knows they are important, that one person who thinks that things will fall apart without him/her presence, that one person that thinks everything he/she says is right and should be followed by everyone, one who know how to get what he/she wants and will make sure he/she tells others what they want to hear regardless he/she means it or not (manipulators), one who likes seeing others fall (sometimes they become other people's downfall), one who would throw trash in front of somebody else's house etc.
Selfishness begins within oneself, it starts at home really. Take an example of a child, that one child who wouldn’t wanna share his/her toys with a sister/brother. It may seem like something small now but in the future, a child will grow thinking it’s okay to be selfish. Take another example of a tenant, seriously though, why doesn’t one do maintenance in a house he/she lives in just because it’s not his/hers? Like, the time he/she moves out, the house is a mess (like the painting is falling off or drawings on the wall or broken taps, broken door locks etc).
So what are the effect of all this?
Selfish people end up alone and unhappy.
Selfishness always brings conflicts.
Selfish people end up working alone.
Other people miss opportunities because of selfish people.
Anyways, being selfish isn’t always a bad thing. Sometimes it’s healthier to take care of you and be you. Putting your needs above others is OKAY as you need to be happy and live your life. On the other hand, not considering others 100% is NOT OKAY. Let me give an example here: Say at your office there is a new job to be done with good money (out of your usual work) that needs to be done before the day ends. It is not selfish if you can actually do the required job and finish at the required time without postponing your usual important office work. But it is selfish if you don’t have time to do the job or do not know how to do it and you actually know someone else who can do the job but don’t give him/her a chance to do it just because you know he/she will receive the money instead. Let somebody else shine for once, be considerate. Another example; You find students missing scholarships opportunities or job opportunities just because few people decide they want their friends/people they know getting the scholarships/job positions.
Most of these things we see them as normal things because we have grown up seeing others do. They become habits therefore our children will also learn them. It is time to change. And by CHANGE I mean, YOU, YOURSELF DECIDE TO CHANGE TODAY, TEACH YOUR CHILDREN TO BE BETTER PEOPLE. Remember it is not always about you.
